SPOTLIGHT RELEASES:
· Pat here. Someone has already posted about the new Orville Peck album. I just wanted to reiterate that it is AWESOME. I’m obsessed with it. “C’Mon Baby Cry” is on loop. Too good.
Horse Jumper is coming out with their third LP on June 16th!!!! This is the first single released for the upcoming album and as proven in the music positing thread in the WUML Discord, it is already going to become a beloved album by our silly little station.
Suki Waterhouse – I Can’t Let Go
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Endless Rooms
Some indie rock/jangle pop. This band’s third album. Very college radio ready. Check it!
Sister Cookie – In the Blue Corner
Okay so this is going for adds right now, despite how old it is. This is some Aretha style soul out of London, and it’s SUPER impressive. Check it!

Folk Implosion - Feel It If You Feel It (4/13/22) EP
2 of my 3 additions to the Rock and Pop section today are returning bands. I’ve just realized this. But more importantly: THE FOLK IMPLOSION ARE BACK! After 22-23 years of no music from them, John Davis and Lou Barlow have teamed back up and released a little EP of tracks! The back 2 are remixes, so I don’t care about them as much, but the first two tracks here are very good, and an interesting development for the band’s sound. They left off with their sleekly produced One Part Lullaby, and while I do really like that album, I’m really excited for the direction they’re taking with this new EP. Rather than throwing out the baby with the bathwater(As Barlow and Davis are both unhappy with One Part Lullaby), they’ve taken it’s shiny production and somewhat straightforward song structures and given them just a bit more indie flair. Strange electronic sounding noises, guitars with effects, all these weird things come in to give the songs just a bit more style and I’m all here for it. Super excited for the album they’re planning later in the year.
Primus - Conspiranoid (4/22/22) EP
Primus are back! For anyone who cares(probably just me). This is a short little EP that they’ve just released, Les, Ler, and Herb are back making the weird shit again. Granted, it’s not as weird or stylistically unique as their old material(or as good, if I’m being honest), but it’s still enjoyable and a little weird. The main track Conspiranoia is an 11 minute prog ditty with very on the nose lyrics about conspiracy theorists and their idiocy. The following two tracks are just short little add ons(compared to the 11 minutes, at least), certainly not the main attraction here, but they’ve got a little more of that old zany Primus flair. I think this EP is enjoyable, so if you’re a fan of the band’s other work give this EP a listen.
Polyphia - Playing God
Instrumental pop/funk/prog/whatever you wanna call them gods Polyphia are back with a new single! It’s a different sound than their typical style, softer and with more nylon guitars. However, I do feel that it’s definitely still in the same vein and DEFINITELY scratches that Polyphia itch. Crazy guitar work abound here, as well as sweet grooves. Check it out! 022.
Metal and Punk
Karate Steve – No Way Out but Through (4/29) (Singles – Gaslighter, Black Hole Pale Horse)
BOSTON MUSIC! These guys actually called the station while Crowdkill MA was on and recommended that we play them. Honestly, you never know what you’re going to get from unsolicited \requests from musicians to play their own stuff, but DAMN these guys delivered. It’s this super cool sludge/metalcore blend. Really heavy, great riffs, great vocals, great musicianship, really interesting song structures too. My two favorite songs are the last two. PLEASE check this album!
No/Más – Consume / Deny / Repent (4/29) (Singles – Interrogation, Exile)
I love some DC hardcore, no matter what era, and this is the second album from this deathgrind (essentially death metal-inspired grindcore) outfit from out of there. One of my favorite metal bands is Full of Hell, and this band fits right in with them (I believe they were on tour together recently). Check this album! Only 21 minutes .
Ballista – Ballista Territory (2/15) (Singles – God’s Image, 1000 Stitches 2000 Cuts)
This is some deathcore-inspired stuff out of Dallas. I saw them last weekend in Upton on tour with Gates to Hell. They have a trans woman as the lead vocalist, and that’s always music that I want to support and that makes me feel really safe, so I really wanted to highlight them, especially since they’re from across the country and people around here probably don’t know about them. “God’s Image” specifically is about that issue, and it’s really great stuff.
Terror – Pain into Power (5/6) (Singles – Boundless Contempt, Can’t Help but Hate)
This band has been around for about 20 years, and they have such a classic LA hardcore sound. This new album is about what you expect from this band, and it’s great stuff! “Can’t Help but Hate” even has vocals from Corpsegrinder of Cannibal Corpse. Only 18 minutes!
Vomit Forth – “Seething Malevolence” (5/6)
New single from an upcoming album from Connecticut death metal band Vomit Forth! Really solid stuff, I recommend it, especially since they play in MA a decent amount and it’s easier to directly support them.

Ok so by now we’re all aware that Kendrick has a new song out! But it fucks really hard, AND theres a clean version on spotify so you are safe to play it! I really enjoy the orchestral type instrumentation on this track, but the lyrics are just as exciting, their juxtaposition really shows where Kendrick is right now in his career- he hasn’t forgotten where he started but damn is he a long way from home. 9/10 M&Ms
